Employment webinar discussing carer support hosted by Employers for Carers, Carers UK and ADASS

With staff retention and resilience a key challenge for employers, flexible employers and flexible care services are essential to enable the 1 in 7 employees who juggle work and care to combine caring and paid employment healthily and productively. What are the lessons from employers who have introduced flexible working? How do the challenges posed by a changing social care agenda fit with carers and employment? What other changes in social policy act as key drivers?

Employers for Carers and Carers UK, ADASS (Association of Directors of Adult Social Services) and Surrey County Council hosted an online seminar (webinar) for local authorities, (as employers and service providers), employers and other local stakeholders about how to support carers to stay in, and return to, work.

The Carers and Employment webinar was held on Friday 22 July and was broadcasted via Carers World Radio. Speakers included Graeme Betts from ADASS, Madeleine Starr from Carers UK and Chris Grant, Diversity Manager at BT Openreach.

The event was aimed at local authorities, employers and other local stakeholders who want to support carers in and into work. Online participants joined the discussion through Carers World Radio.

During the webinar Employers for Carers, Carers UK and ADASS, launched practical guidance on improving options and opportunities for carers titled 'Carers and Employment: making a difference, realising potential'.
