On 18 May 2021 we hosted out first corporate roll-out event, designed to help members get the most out of the EfC and Digital Resource for Carers platforms. The session included short demonstrations from the team on each platform, focussing on the e-learning resources, toolkits and new journey maps (EfC Digital) and About Me, Learning for Living, Jointly, Upfront and MyBackUp (Digital Resource for Carers).
There was a further discussion specifically around the newly refreshed line manager e-learning resource, which is adaptable, non-prescriptive and includes practical case studies about dealing with different scenarios involving carers in the workplace. Members also stressed the importance of having conversations that are tailored to the situation, rather than adopting a one-size-fits-all approach.
The team then delivered a short presentation on the Carer Confident benchmarking scheme, which assists employers in building a supportive and inclusive workplace for staff with caring responsibilities. The three levels are Level 1 Active, Level 2 Accomplished and Level 3 Ambassador, and members with an interest in being accredited were encouraged to contact either their account manager or firstname.lastname@example.org.
An interactive discussion was facilitated by the team to give members the opportunity to raise any challenges, share best practice and ask any questions about supporting working carers. Members suggested utilising personal stories to increase engagement and organisational buy-in to the cause, involving unions and workplace reps, and having an executive or senior sponsor. The group then discussed plans for activities during Carers Week (7-13 June), across different industries and organisations, and we can’t wait to hear about how they went!
