This Members' Networking event, hosted by UBS was chaired by Madeleine Starr, Director of Business Development and Innovation at Carers UK. Mehmet Cemal, MD, Global AM IT and Executive Sponsor of the FamilyMatters Network at UBS introduced the event as it's host.
Sue Langley, CEO Financial Services Organisation, UK Trade and Investment and Member of the Women’s Business Council gave an
overview of the work of the WBC especially its recommendations on managing ageing in the workplace. EfC Members can download Sue Langley's slides below (once logged in).
EfC is delighted that WBC has highlighted caring as a key workplace issue and that it is taking such a keen interest in this agenda. EfC and WBC recently released a joint news release
to encourage more flexible working to support carers at work which was published during Carers Week.
The event continued with a short Q & A session and further networking opportunities to share good working practice.
Madeleine Starr explained that EfC is going from strength to strength, with nearly 90 member organisations and is also seeing increasing interest in its work and activities not only within the UK but also within Europe and the wider world. Within Europe, for example, EfC (and Carers UK) has contributed to a new multilingual web platform for carers - InformCare - across 27 participating EU countries. In some countries there will also be sections for employers and care professionals. The platform aims to provide information to carers and also to enable them to communicate, share experiences and support each other. The platform acknowledges the work of EfC and Carers UK and is available on the Eurocarers website.
The web platform has been developed by INNOVAGE, a major three year European project focused on social innovations which support active and healthy ageing. The project is dedicated to developing, testing and cataloguing social innovations for older people.
