As an EfC umbrella member, you will be looking to engage with your local SME businesses to make them aware of the help and resources available to them through this free membership model.

There are simple measures that you can take to help your staff balance work and caring effectively which can mean the difference between keeping skilled and experienced staff and losing them as they give up work to care. Having a clear and easily accessible Carers' Policy is a good place to start.

It is often hard to identify and engage carers in your workforce as people don’t see themselves as carers; they are daughters, husbands, partners doing what families do - looking after the people they love. A carers’ network is often a good way of doing this, be it virtual or face to face.

TAEN (The Age and Employment Network) and AARP, the largest US membership organisation for people aged 50+, have launched (August 2010) a UK version of a successful tool enabling employers to assess their current and future workforce needs in readiness for the challenges of the ageing population.

Macmillan have produced a number of toolkits and videos for employers supporting someone with cancer at work, for employees who are living with cancer and working, and for carers looking after somone with cancer and juggling work.
