This Members' Networking event, hosted by UBS was chaired by Madeleine Starr, Director of Business Development and Innovation at Carers UK. Mehmet Cemal, MD, Global AM IT and Executive Sponsor of the FamilyMatters Network at UBS introduced the event as it's host. Our Members event on March 24th was an opportunity to discuss the promotion of carers’ health and well-being in the workplace as well as announcing the findings of our EfC/Carers UK Caring and Isolation in the Workplace survey. Michelle Mendelsson, Head of Diversity and Inclusion at hosts Credit Suisse, welcomed our members and guests and spoke briefly about their workplace support for carers. They currently have two employee networks that include support for carers (Family and Wellness and Accessibility). The event on October 31st was an opportunity for HR business partners and colleagues to have a practical discussion around the theme of ‘Communicating the message – the challenges for businesses operating in flexible 24/7 environments’. KPMG provided a wonderful venue, facilities and buffet at their Salisbury Square office (this was actually one of the last public events to be held here as KPMG are shortly moving from this building). This event focused on the extension of the flexible working regulations and the impact for employers and working carers. The venue was the beautiful and newly refurbished Library Event Room at the Royal Society in London SW1. The Employers Supporting Working Carers in Oxfordshire Scheme held a Business Networking event on April 23rd 2014 which was hosted by St Peter’s College (in their beautiful and historic dining hall) and commenced with a welcome address from James Graham, Bursar of the College. Other speakers from Oxfordshire County Council, Carers Oxfordshire, Employers for Carers and Hunts paper and pixels highlighted the importance of recognising and supporting those with caring responsibilities in their workforce. Our first event of 2014 was hosted by the Financial Ombudsman Service in their wonderful “rooms with a view” in Exchange Tower in the Docklands. At the event, which was chaired by Arthur Allen, founder of Listawood, Helena Herklots, Chief Executive of Carers UK launched the Employers for Carers and Carers UK research report ‘Supporting employees who are caring for someone with dementia’. Hosted by KPMG at their state of the art HQ this members' networking event provided an opportunity for a discussion around the landmark Task and Finish Group report which was launched on 27 August as well as opportunities to network with other members. At the event, Employers for Carers and Carers UK also launched a new research survey into the impact of caring for a family member or friend with dementia on both employers and employees. During Carers Week EfC held its members' networking event at the Royal Society in London which was attended by 70 employers and invited guests. Speakers included representatives from British Gas, Sainsbury's, Listawood, the Equality and Human Rights Commission and the Department of Health. During the week, Carers UK and Employers for Carers staff also participated in a variety of workplace events hosted by O2, Credit Suisse, Transport for London, the Foreign and Commonwealth Office, the Financial Ombudsman Service and the London Fire Brigade.
